1.0.1. First Life Update<2026-08-06 Thu>

  • Recently switched from an IPhone XR on IOS 18 to an used IPhone 14 on IOS 26. Apple’s build quality and hardware/software integration continues to never dissapoint and as a side bonus, I don’t have to deal with any of the Apple Intelligence shtick since the A18 chip can’t support it. Having increased storage plus 2 GB of extra RAM makes the daily drive of using this thing smoother compared to my prior model. It should be enough to tide me over until a Linux OEM phone or a GrapheneOS compatible android phone that isn’t Google Pixel enters the market.
  • The Dell Inspiron that I’ve been wanting to use as a mini homelab/server has laid unused and I’ve cleaned out from my table to give me a little more space. CasaOS isn’t really doing anything exciting right now so my plan is to shelve it and just switch to the base Proxmox I have on there. The key thing is setting up a Nextcloud Instance with an IP address that’s easily accessible from my mobile phone alongside Immich for cloud photo storage. I won’t mess with DNS filtration via PiHole until I’m confident the configuration won’t bork the router.
  • I managed to achieve a record of RM 3500 in sales on Carousell over the last 9 months selling a total of 65 items, give or take.
  • Watched Spider Man: Brand New Day. Solid 8/10. Love the homages to Spider Man 2 and the themes of isolation and social connection. Definitely relevant for our generation right now.
  • I’ll be starting a side project of growing cherry tomatoes in my room. I’d love heirloom tomatoes for BLT sandwiches but they’re notoriously prone to blight and fungal disease compared to the cherries and command a higher retail premium. Seeds will be arriving by the end of this week. I plan to start germination in smaller pots before transferring the surviving vines to a trancher.
  • I’m pleased to say that my first time using a Jinhao fountain pen has been great and I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank on fountain pens. I bought the Jinhao Shark off Shopee for free thanks to a voucher promotion and it is buttery smooth to write with. I’ll probably switch to a Parker in the future when I grow more confident.
